WORKSHOP: PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN THE TIMBER HARVEST PLAN PROCESS

An intensive one-day workshop designed to educate community members on the Timber Harvest Plan (THP) process with emphasis on avenues for public response and input. Speakers will give an overview of the policy and regulatory framework, the responsible agencies, and how a THP is structured. Experts will also explore conflict resolution and how the public can develop comprehensive, coordinated and productive responses to concerns. A panel of experts will include representatives from the California Department of Forestry, Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Game and California Geological Survey, a registered forester, an environmental attorney, public activists and conflict resolution professionals. Case histories will demonstrate the challenges and successes of public involvement. This workshop is sponsored by the Natural Resource Department and is supported by a grant from the County of Sonoma Fish and Wildlife Advisory Board. Edmund H. Smith, Biologist will be the Faculty coordinator.
