RRRAUL -- Russian River Residents Against Unsafe Logging

Timber Harvest Returns to Guernewood Park

A plan to log much of the same land as the late, unlamented "Munchie" Timber Harvest Plan (THP) was recently filed at CDF.
The old "Munchie" plan of 1997 was a proposal to log 66 acres lying above Highway 116 and Old Monte Rio Road, between Guerneville and Monte Rio.
The new THP (1-99-487 SON) has a new timberland owner and a new forester, and differs in some silvicultural respects from its predecessor, but covers most (50 acres) of the same property as "Munchie". Most of the same concerns raised about "Munchie" also remain as issues for this THP, including narrow and precarious roads, unstable slopes and significant recent landslide disturbances, likely raptor and osprey presence, and erosional impacts upon the Russian River.
The previous THP was ultimately withdrawn by the previous property owner after it received substantial scrutiny, including an unusually strict and lengthy review by the public and by County and State agencies.
Concerned neighbors and RRAULians recently met at the Guerneville Library to discuss the new THP and are planning further meetings.
Residents are urged to immediately investigate the THP, to write letters to CDF, and to contact Russian River Residents Against Unsafe Logging.
