THE RUSSIAN RIVER PERSPECTIVE

Introduction

The Russian River Perspective

Since the early part of this century, the Russian River has been a haven for the thousands of city dwellers. They would trek up to the river from the rolling hills of San Francisco to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was not long before people decided that they would like to stay on this beautiful river year-round. Thus, the development began. In modern times, the development of this flood plain would never have been allowed. But these people decided that they would deal with the flooding. This was the beginning of the problems. It would be impossible to focus on every problem facing the river, therefore we decided to focus on the ones that we feel present the greatest threat to this watershed. We will be informing you of the logging, gravel mining, flooding, water pollution and the wildlife in the Russian River and Guerneville area. The Russian River is in the top twenty of the most endangered rivers in The United States. We feel that the only way to save this watershed is to make people aware of the problems facing it. This is what we hope to accomplish with this magazine.
